Nokia India today announced its much awaited Android-based smartphone ‘Nokia X’ in India for Rs 8,599. The company had announced ‘Nokia X’ family of affordable smartphones, which was first spotted at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month.
“India is one of the fastest growing markets for smart phones in the world. With the launch of Nokia X, we are adding more ammunition to our smartphone portfolio. We believe Nokia X is a unique combination of Nokia quality and experiences, Microsoft services and Android apps,” Nokia India Managing Director P Balaji told PTI.
Nokia India said it will bring the other two devices X+ and XL in the Indian market in the next 60 days.
The Dual SIM Nokia X is a 4″ inch device, powered by a 1 GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It features a tile-based UI design, 512MB RAM and it comes with 4GB internal storage expandable up to 32GB via microSD card, 3MP camera and 1500mAh battery.
The phone runs a highly customised version of Android (based on Android 4.1.2). Nokia X comes with Nokia’s own app store instead of PlayStore, HERE Drive and Maps for location service, and Nokia MixRadio music service.
Nokia has also bundled Microsoft’s cloud storage service, One Drive with the phone and is offering 10GB of One Drive storage for free, along with one month of free unlimited Skype calls to landlines and mobiles.
